Pupils have designed a fire alarm that can be used with electrical fires by using a foam release, rather than water sprinkler system. They have tested current alarms and made their own circuit board to control the system.

The pupils researched the science behind onions making us cry when we chop them. They explored various old wives tails and more scientific theories to reduce the tear production during onion preparation to find the most effective method.

The pupil has been experimenting with various chemicals to find the most realistic lava eruption to use on film sets. A range of chemicals have been tested and different parameters examined, such as concentrations and volumes of solutions etc. The best one will be used on a model set and filmed to show its properties.

The pupils wanted to find out how effective cleaning in the school was and find ways to improve it. First of all they tested areas of the school to find how much and what types of bacteria are growing on various surfaces. They then took a large range of cleaning products that are used within the school and tested their effectiveness against bacterial growth. Their results will inform clearners of where improvements will be made, plus suggestions of how we could make the school more hyienic to avoid the spread of disease.
